Extension and Improvements to St Francis SEN School, Fareham, Hampshire

Enabling works are complete and the main works have now started on the extension and refurbishment of St Francis School.  The new single-storey building will be of cross-laminated/glulam construction to keep the building carbon footprint to a minimum.  Elevations will be brick and vertical timber cladding with windows and doors in powder-coated aluminium.  South-facing classrooms will utilise NVHR for natural ventilation and will feature a canopy to address solar gain.  The design and implementation of all M&E services focuses on high reliability and low maintenance and low energy consumption.

External works include the creation of terraces, shaded play areas and quiet spaces, plus the improvement of parking facilities, provision of cycle storage and hard and soft landscaping.

Works will be undertaken in two phases to minimise disruption and the school will remain open and fully operational throughout the construction period.
