The Mayor of Waverley, Councillor Denise Le Gal cut the ribbon at the official opening of 16 new homes at Ockford Ridge in Godalming on Thrusday 20 September. Councillor Le Gal was joined at the ceremony by Waverley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Housing, Councillor Carole King and ward councillors Councillor Andrew Bolton and Councillor Paul Follows. Council officers and representatives from the council’s construction contractor, W Stirland Limited also attended.
The six houses and ten flats are built and equipped to the highest standards and are energy efficient, so tenants will save on their heating, hot water and electricity bills.
Councillor King said: “Here in the borough of Waverley, we have among the highest housing costs the country and for many a good quality, safe, affordable home can be extremely difficult to find. As a council we take our responsibility to support and help those in housing need very seriously. We see the building of new affordable homes as critical to enable local to people to continue living in the borough, to keep contributing to the local economy and to keep our communities strong and vibrant.”
Following the opening ceremony, local residents were invited to enjoy a light buffet, provided by W Stirland Limited, at the Ockford Ridge Social Club in thanks for their patience during the works.
