Client: Beacon Heights Developments Ltd
Contract Value: £3.7 million
Duration: 50 weeks
Completion: December 2017
Contract: Design & Build
WSL were appointed for the construction of this award-winning four-storey block of 24 one and two-bedroom flats in the centre of Haywards Heath.
This was an extremely technically demanding project featuring very high standards of design detailing and requiring complex technical input and a superlative build quality. The resulting building has won Mid Sussex Design Awards for Large Residential Schemes 2018, and the People's Choice Award 2018, and the Sussex Heritage Trust Award for Large Scale Residential Development 2018.
The building incorporated a load bearing masonry structure with precast concrete floors and a timber-framed upper floor with Nordic brass standing seam cladding. Inset balconies provide private amenity space for each of the apartments on the upper floors, with individual gardens provided for the ground floor flats, and surrounding landscaped grounds retaining protected trees including a 30m tall Wellingtonia.
The flats also feature full-height double glazed windows to maximise natural daylight and views, solar PV panels to generate electricity to all the common areas, MVHR systems and smart energy systems to allow heating to be remotely controlled in all rooms via the Heatmiser phone app.
