Freeland Close and Westward House Refurbishment and New-Build Emergency Housing Development

Freeland Close and Westward House

Client: Chichester District Council
Contract Value: £2.1m
Duration: 48 weeks
Sector: Residential
Procurement: Competitive Tender
Completion: December 2021
Contract: JCT Design & Build 2011

This part refurbishment and part new build project for Chichester District Council will provide emergency short-term accommodation for local households in need.

The main offices in Westward House will be refurbished and updated to provide offices and 3 x one-bedroom flats.  The accommodation complex to the rear will be demolished and replaced with a new building offering 9 x studio flats and 4 x one/two bedroom flats.

The new building will take the form of three attached blocks, which reduces the mass of the development into smaller parts.  Materials have been chosen to complement surrounding development and include buff-coloured facing brick, zinc standing seam cladding to projecting window bays, composite aluminium doors and windows and slate-coloured pitched roofing with PV panels.
