Holy Cross Hydrotherapy Unit Haslemere, West Sussex
The works entailed the construction of a new hydrotherapy pool, physiotherapy facilities, staff changing rooms and main hospital reception.
The project required the connection or alteration of numerous essential services. As can be seen from the photograph above the pool was constructed using a Glulam timber frame.
Architect: Federick Gibbert Partnership
Engineer: Scott Wilson
Client Agent: Bird and MacDonald
Close co-ordination was required between the site team and client in order to ensure that the hospital's services and supplies were not affected during the period of construction.
The Glulam timber framed pool is heated using a combination of both gas and solar power. Shading to the pool is provided by motorised louvres.
The building succeeded in winning the People's Choice category of Waverley Borough Council's Design Awards, New Building (non-residential) Category and Sustainable Design and Construction category.
