Petersgate Infant School, Clanfield Clanfield, Hampshire
Construction of a new single-storey block containing three classrooms, pupil WCs, and storage areas.
Internal refurbishment and alterations to enlarge the current main hall and kitchen areas, reconfiguration of administrative areas. Associated hard and soft landscaping works.
Architect: Hampshire County Council
Engineer: Hampshire County Council
The school has outgrown its previous extension, and has been using temporary classrooms to provide space for the increased pupil numbers. This permanent extension will provide three new classrooms with further space being generated by the reconfiguration and enlarging of current classrooms. The works will see the school’s capacity rise from 180 pupils (2FE) to 240 pupils (3FE).
The new block will be encased in a buff brick envelope with grey polyester powder-coated framed glazing and doors.
Sustainability will be addressed from the design stage to minimise the building’s energy demand, in line with Building Regulations Approved Document Part L. High levels of insulation and airtightness will address heat loss through the building and MVHR (mechanical ventilation heat recovery) units will improve internal air quality whilst reducing space heating requirements. Large openable windows will allow for natural ventilation and maximise daylight, thereby reducing the demand for artificial lighting.
Works commenced in August 2018 and are due for completion in summer 2019, in time for the new academic year.
