Rosemary House A Development of 11 Flats for Affordable Rent
Client: Crown Simmons Housing
Contract Value: £2.5m
Duration: Main Works 57 Weeks
Procurement: Two-Stage Tender
Completion: October 2022
Contract: JCT D&B 2016
This project will see the demolition of a Victorian building formerly used as an office, and the creation of 11 flats (7 x two-bedroom and 4 x one-bedroom) for affordable rent by Crown Simmons Housing.
The new building uses a stepped design from two storeys at the frontage to Portsmouth Road, rising to four storeys at the rear southern boundary. This approach works to unify the streetscape by providing a link in scale between the buildings to either side. Mixed cladding materials including rock panels, render, standing seam zinc and horizontal timber panels create interest and reduce the mass of the development. The design incorporates an undercroft at the rear which houses parking provision and a relocated electricity substation.
