Westbourne House School Chichester, West Sussex
Westbourne House Preparatory School appointed W. Stirland with the construction of the new school theatre.
This was the third project carried out on a design and build partnering basis for the school, with the final phase of their building programme including the construction of a £1 million new kitchen, dinning room and classroom building in the centre of the school.
Architect: Chris Edmonds Associates
Engineer: Bedford Eccles Partnership
The construction of a new School Assembly Hall provided practice rooms, a stage, changing facilities, toilets and an entrance lobby. The building is of steel-frame construction, clad in brickwork and stone, with powder-coated aluminium windows. The building is heated using a combination of under-floor and radiator heating as well as an air-handling system
To enable the school to continue its day-to-day activities the pupils had to use part of the site to access other buildings. The management of this was crucial to the safety of the school pupils and progress on site.
