Project Brief

We were appointed as Principal Contractor to undertake the expansion of Worplesdon Primary School in Guildford which was part of Surrey County Council’s schools expansion programme.

The two-storey building provides eight new classrooms and an extension to the existing hall. The school remains a two form entry (2FE) primary school at Reception and Key Stage 1, but expands to three form entry (3FE) at Key Stage 2.

Project Description

The project was divided into four phases:

1 - Car park, temporary WC/store and hall screens
2 - New Classroom block
3 - Hall Extension
4 - Remove Modular Classrooms

The two-storey new build classroom block has a flat roof with facing brick and aluminium curtain-walling elevations. The main structure is a steel frame with a beam and block ground floor and steel decking on the upper floors.

The steel framed, full height hall extension has added nearly 4m to the length of the existing building. The external elevations match those of the new classroom block and there is extensive hard landscaping around the new buildings.
