Tandridge District Council has contracted WSL to demolish the existing block of 12 units and replace with a new two and three-storey block of 19 units of warden-assisted accommodation. The new building will have glass balconies, a communal lounge area, central plant room, and PV panel installations on the roof.
The site is at the end of a narrow cul-de-sac, with further challenges being presented by the clay soil, (requiring the installation of a 103,000 litre attenuation tank to assist controlled rainwater discharge), and the protected trees along three of the four boundary sides.
Residents are to be moved into temporary accommodation for the duration of the works and moved back in approximately 15 months, when the works are scheduled for completion.
